I highly recommend the gallo pinto! Yummy rice and beans typically served at breakfast. It's a neat little country with some scary roads & bridges. It's also mostly safe, but not safe. With even a minimal amount of caution, you will be fine. Just keep your money in a safe place, and if it's dark out... take a taxi, don't walk to your destination. One girl on the trip with me did get cholera, so I'd also recommend drinking bottled water, or boiled water, and don't eat food from street venders. I spent 3 weeks in Costa Rica last summer.
