My boyfriend broke his ankle last year running in a marathon-like event (it's a 80-mile team event rather than a single person). Because the race is so long, they can't close the roads. A dumbass guy with a heavy-duty pickup truck with extended mirrors came barreling down the side of the road and didn't give my boyfriend room to run (even though he was on the side of the road anyway). He had to decide at the last second if he should take a blow to the face or jump into a ditch to the side. He chose to jump, and his ankle broke on impact. The worst part, though, is he continued to run on it for another 1.5 mile until he tagged off with another team member. His ankle swelled and went blue, and that's when I finally convinced him to have an x-ray done. Broken. Sucked! Anyway, hope yours doesn't put a cramp in your vacation style. Have a nice one!
